Delete your BIO.RE account
Deleting your BIO.RE account is permanent and takes effect immediately. This page explains how to do it, what we delete, and the few records we are legally required to keep.
About this page
This page explains how to delete your BIO.RE account, what we delete, and what we have to keep. It covers the BIO.RE mobile app and bio.re on the web — one account works across both, so deleting it removes it everywhere.
You do not need to be signed in to read this page. You do need to be signed in, or to write to us from your account email address, to actually delete an account.
How to delete your account
You can delete your account yourself, from the app or from the website. Every route below does the same thing and takes effect straight away.
In the BIO.RE app (Android and iOS)
- Open the app and go to Settings.
- Open Account and scroll to the danger zone at the bottom. The same option also sits under Privacy & notifications, next to the data download.
- Tap Delete account permanently.
- Confirm with your password. If you signed up with Google or Apple and never set a password, choose the option that says so — your signed-in session confirms it instead.
- Tap Delete forever. The deletion runs straight away.
On bio.re as a creator
- Sign in at bio.re and go to Settings.
- Find Deactivate or delete account and select Manage.
- In the Danger zone, select Delete under Delete account.
- Confirm, entering your password if your account has one.
On bio.re as a fan
- Sign in at bio.re and go to Settings.
- Scroll to the Danger zone.
- Select Delete my account and confirm with your password.
By email
If you cannot sign in, email hi@bio.re from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We will confirm that it is you before we do anything, then delete the account and reply when it is done.
Deletion is immediate and permanent
There is no grace period and no undo. The moment you confirm, the deletion runs. We do not hold your account for 30 days, we cannot restore it, and there is no reactivation link.
- You are signed out on every device straight away.
- Your bio page stops working immediately.
- Signing up again later creates a brand-new, empty account. Nothing is restored.
Get a copy of your data first
Because deletion cannot be undone, download anything you want to keep before you delete. You have the right to a copy of your data (GDPR Article 15), and you can ask for it from inside the app:
- Go to Settings, then Privacy & notifications.
- Tap Download my data (GDPR).
- We build the archive — usually a few minutes — and give you a time-limited download link. When the link expires, the archive file is deleted from our storage.
You can request up to three exports a day. On the web, fans can request the same archive from Settings, then Data & export. If you cannot find the option, email hi@bio.re and we will send it to you.
What we delete
When the deletion runs, we erase or anonymise the following straight away:
- Your profile — display name, bio, profile photo (the image file is deleted from our storage), phone number, referral code, and the sign-up and marketing data attached to your account, including device, country, referring page and campaign tags.
- Your bio page — the page itself and every link on it.
- Your sign-in credentials — password, two-factor secret and backup codes, every active session, and every registered device.
- Linked social accounts — Google, Apple, X and any other connected login is unlinked. If you used Sign in with Apple, we also ask Apple to revoke the authorisation, so Apple issues a fresh private-relay email address if you ever sign up again.
- Your messages — the content of every message you sent or received is erased, and the photos and files you exchanged are deleted from our storage. An empty placeholder stays in the other person's chat so their own history is not broken.
- Notifications and preferences — notifications, push tokens, notification settings, blocked-user lists, drafts and your username history.
- Creator records — your bank details (IBAN, account holder name, SWIFT, bank name and country), your Stripe account reference, your identity-verification provider references, your DM packages and prices, and the ratings you gave or received.
What we keep, and for how long
A few records cannot be deleted with the rest. Each one below is kept for a specific reason, for a specific length of time.
- Payment, invoice, commission and tax records — at least 7 years. Tax and accounting law requires us to keep them. They stay attached to an anonymised account record, not to your name.
- A minimal identity record — 90 days, or up to 540 days after your last payment. We keep your email address, username, display name, phone number and account creation date in a separate archive, so that we can answer a chargeback or a payment dispute. If you never made a payment, it is deleted 90 days after your account is deleted. If you did, it is deleted 540 days after your last payment, or 90 days after deletion, whichever is later. The clock runs from your last payment rather than from the day you delete, so deleting long after your last payment does not extend it.
- Consent records — kept, and stripped down. The record that you accepted our Terms and Privacy Policy, which version you accepted and when, is kept as proof of consent for as long as we may need it. At deletion we remove the IP address and device details from it.
- Moderation and safety records — kept. If you filed or received a report, the report itself stays as safety history, but the free-text description is cleared.
- The outcome of identity verification — kept. That verification was completed, and when, with no name, document or provider reference attached. This is anti-money-laundering diligence we are required to be able to show.
540 days is the outer limit card networks allow for a chargeback on a delayed-delivery purchase, which is the only reason that archive record exists.
Money left on your account
Deleting your account does not forfeit your balance. If you still have money in your BIO.RE wallet, we freeze the wallet and keep the balance as an amount we owe you. It cannot be spent and it does not expire.
To claim it, email hi@bio.re. We keep your archive record until the balance is settled, even once the retention period above has passed. If you would rather not deal with this afterwards, withdraw your balance before you delete.
Payouts you requested but that have not been sent yet are cancelled, and money a fan was holding in escrow for a message you never delivered is settled or refunded before your messages are erased.
